blushing Bed wetting

Hi all. This is an embarressing question for me and my daughter. First a little back ground history. My daughter is 5 years old she has a list of problems, lazy eye with vision problems, speech delays (hard to understand ), bowlegged to the point of pain in hips, brain cyst, cerbrum displaced, left frontal sinus disease, and ADHD. ( I think thats all ) She is rebelious that's the only way I can describe it. There's something wrong with her and her doctors really don't know what it is. But my concern for this post is; she is wetting the bed and has been doing it off and on since she was potty trained at age 3. At first I thought it was stress (it still could be) but even on good days she sometimes has accidents (at bedtime). I know this has to be hard for her but its hard for me too. I want her to have a normal life and not have to deal with this embarressing situtation ( and not have a pee pee smelling bed {I put plastic on her bed finally} )
I hurt for her and I don't know what to do. Can anyone help? Also if you know of any informayion on any of her other problems listed feel free to give advice on those too! Thank you

Hi Ashley! My son has wet the bed off and on since he was potty-trained. He'll go for months dry every night and then wet for a few days again. It seems to follow his growth spurts. I've read that the size of their bladder doesn't always keep up with their growth.

My advice is to buy a good waterproof mattress pad. Make sure you never say anything negative about the bedwetting. Just strip and change the bed.

I find it helps if he's not over-tired; a regular bedtime is "a good thing". He usually goes to bed at 8:00-8:30 during the school year and 9:00 in the summer. When he's going through the day-after-day of bedwetting, I wake him up when I go to bed (about 11:00-11:30), lead him to the bathroom, and make him go. I found he was often wetting the bed early in the night. He does not remember that I wake him up; he's a deep sleeper.

Also restrict water/juice intake at night. Have her eat a bedtime snack that doesn't require a drink (no salty popcorn, no popsicles, etc.).

Leave a nightlight in the bathroom. My son gets up about four times a week, by himself, to go.

Be patient. The situation will improve with age. Good luck!

blushing Bed wetting

Hi
My heart goes out to you. My daughter was 4 when I finelly had her potty trained but at last she would wet the bed at night it drove me crazy having to wash sheets I had to use a mattress cover and use those goodnites on her. With patience I started limiting her water intake and waking her up at nite to go potty.

Well, we have the potty thing niped but I can not get her to wipe her own bottom after the other now...She will be 8 in afew days.
Drs have told me too that stress will cause them to wet at nite (also she sleeps hard she does not know that she is wet)

She has hydrocephalus-water on the brain-had her vp shunt in at 6mos old age... Hang in there

Secamom, my ds was like that, too. Just refuse to wipe her bottom. They have to do it in school; they can do it at home.

Sometimes it depends on where the bathrooms are at in school. At our elementary school, some classrooms have a bathroom in the room. As the kids get older, they use the typical boys' and girls' bathrooms. My kids didn't like those bathrooms in the classrooms; they said everyone could hear them go.

Hee hee Bed Wetting Question

Dear Ashley and All,
Most of you know that I don't have children, so when I reply it is "usually" from my own experiences, and sometimes the children that had been in my care - today is no different.
Let me start with a question - Do any of you remember ('cause I haven't seen any lately) the condiment boxes of sugar cubes that could be found in just about every office for coffee and tea drinkers? If so, then you will understand my next bit of information, for those who do not, it is a rectangular box which holds / held approximately 20 miniature sugar cubes to help sweeten what ever beverage was available near them. Most children could not handle eating more than two before they were bouncing off the walls or ready to fall asleep - depending on how their Kidney's processed sugar substances. Before you ask how does this relate... I was one of those children that at age five (5) was still wetting the bed every now and again - not always, and we could not go on long family outings without having to stop almost every hour so I could use a bathroom or similar there off. My parents tried grounding me, lecturing me, not giving me anything to eat/drink an hour before bedtime, standing at the bathroom door to make sure I used the facility before bed, waking me up in the middle of the night to make sure I tried again before morning, and I still could not get my bladder to stop relieving itself when ever it felt the need to. Finally one day my mom was talking to my pediatrician who didn't quite believe what she was saying so she brought me in for a "check-up", he had a specialist friend of his in the office, and after the "Okay" from mom, I proceeded to eat a whole box of the sugar cubes - not all at once, but during the time that they were questioning my mom about my eating habits, what I usually drank, how active I was, and how often my "wetting" was occurring. Since it wasn't all of the time, they knew it could not be an infection of my bladder nor my Kidneys, but the specialist had an idea of what it could be, and needed both my parents to bring me in for a meeting, a physical, and some x-rays. A week later I was scheduled for surgery. All the tests proved the specialists hunch, my Kidney tubes did not form correctly - at least they did not form in the proper place that most Kidney's do. Imagine and upside down and crossed pair of horse-shoes where your Kidney tubes are suppose to be... and that's what I had. They fixed the issue and a week later I was better than my old self. Could this be your daughter's issue? I don't know. Now comes part two. You mentioned your daughter is ADD / ADHD (sorry didn't quote you) - one of the ten (10) year old boys I use to care for was ADHD, and he even at age ten (10) still had occasional wetting issues (bed, bus, class, etc). His dad (mild ADHD) was always frustrated because he tried a lot of the same procedure stuff that my parents did with me (minus the lecturing and specialist part). We all did manage to get the wetting under control, but it came from the child's immediate community support (his dad and g-friends families, my husband and I, and the school he was attending)... we all made an effort to always keep his mind focused on what he had to do and when - essentially we had to keep him on a type of routine, and accept that when he said he needed to go - he wasn't being a goofy boy. We all also monitored his diet - things that could interact with the ADHD meds (like soda and certain candies), and some family members made a bigger effort to wake him in the middle of the night when ever he was in their care. Will this help your daughter's situation? I don't know, but they are other insights on ways that could assist in resolving your daughters complication for staying dry. It could also be a medical interaction issue, as you mentioned your daughter has some other health concerns as well.
I will be praying for your mystery to be solved before anymore health issues can occur, and that peace will surely find its way to you and yours (everyone).
