Pinkie Winky Anyone ever walked in a cancer relay?

I'm so excited, my children & I walking in a cancer relay in June. It sounds like a lot of fun while we earn money for a great cause. I'm hoping this teaches my children alot about giving of themselves.

From what I understand, the relay last 24 hours during which time they have ongoing activities to make the time fly by and entertain all involved. We get sponsorships, at all times someone from our team is walking. When it's not our turn we can go back to "base camp" which will be my camper/sun tent where we can relax, eat, play, etc. While walking, it's fun as well because they have competitions like; most patriotic walker, drag queen walker, 50s, etc. It sounds like a lot of fun!

Also at night they have luminary bags lighting up around the track. Each luminary is in memory of a loved one that died from cancer or in recognition of a survivor. I've heard it really puts a # on the amount of lives effected by cancer.

If your interested in seeing my webpage here is a link
The American Cancer Society - 2010 Relay For Life of Franklin County:

We are also making sugar cookies cut out like ribbons and frosted pink to sell at the relay to help bring in more funds. My kids might make them as well to sell at our local store.

Has anyone else ever heard or walked in one of these relays?

You have explained Relay For Life just perfectly!
I am from Bakersfield CA and this will be my 7th year to participate! We are, very proudly, the largest Relay For Life fundraiser in the United States!! Our weekend is May 1 and 2 this year!

The most beautiful parts of Relay are the Survivor Lap on Saturday morning and the Luminaria ceremony Saturday evening.

Enjoy your Relay and soak in all the love!!

hugs, train

The only thing I've found out that I'm wrong on is that it is NOT 24 hours. The kick off is around 4pm and we are done by 6am the next morning. Other than that, everything else is right I think.

I have a friend in Texas that also does the relay. It's nice to know that there is a .....sense of community, country wide!

I do understand some are smaller. Though ours is 24 hours it feels more like 36 since we also camp out Friday night and there is a big spaghetti feed while we are setting up the tents!!!

Have fun on your Relay!
