Do you submit to peer pressure on social networks?
I am a member of Facebook. Some are members of Twitter or MySpace. Do you go with the flow and post things other post in the line of, "...if you are a...you will post this in your.." Do you do this? Why or why not?
For the most part I do not do this. Once in a great while I might post something on my status that others have asked me to, but I have to really feel strongly about it to do so.
I'm on facebook, I do not take recommendations for friends (you might know) from others I only accept friends that I know for certain.
I do not post or accept "...if you are a...you will post this in your.." It's my page and I will only do as I wish not others.
I treat my facebook like I'd treat a conversation face to face, if I would not say something to a persons face I would not type or send via other means.
I've never actually had some one ask me to post, if you are a .... Maybe they'd know what I'd say LOL
What I am talking about is when you go to the home page. I will see many, many, on my friends list posting the exact same thing. Here is one example:
IS ANYBODY IN THIS COUNTRY PATRIOTIC ANYMORE!?! Bra colors made FaceBook news BUT WILL THIS? Lets support our Troops. If you support our Troops then please post this on your status and leave it there for one hour. There should be no excuses from anyone!!!!! This should appear in everyone's status.
My question is, do you feel compelled to copy this and post it and leave it for one hour or do you ignore it? Are you pressured by your peers to copy and paste what you see on the home page of your friends posts?
I notice on FB several on my friends list posting and reposting the exact same thing. It is like when I used to live at the head of a Culdesac. I would see one neighbor paint his house, then another, then another, and so on. Then, one neighbor would get a new car, then another neighbor would get a new car, and so on. I have noticed this trend on FaceBook. Peer pressure has now gone virtual. lol
