What's your earliest memory?

What is the earliest memory you have as a child?

Mine was of my daddy sitting under a sign and holding me while showing me off to some of his friends.

My father cutting a hole in the upstairs floor to fit the Christmas tree...lol...he was drunk and brought home this huge Christmas tree(one of the few times he was at home)and my mother screaming at him telling him that he would have to cut off the top...so instead of just trimming the tree he went up stairs and cut a hole in the floor and pulled the top of the tree through it...my mother was furious...there are more memories but they are too horrible to put on here...

Smiles & Hugs...

Theresa, I have bad memories of my childhood too. Mostly from my Mom. Mom and Dad didn't get along. And I think my Mom really didn't like me too much.

One nice one I have is baking pies with my grandma on her woodstove and hiding in the brom closet from my Dad, but he always knew I was there, LOL.

I think that is where I get my love of baking from.

I'm not sure of the earliest as I can't separate time of events in my early years but my parents kept chickens for eggs and one would get out and come into our back the patio area. I was terribly afraid of it but my brother thought of it as a pet and would hold it sometimes. My parents were always yelling at each other and didn't seem to like me much either.

I lived with my grandparents, and until my mother moved away for work when I was three, she always lived within just a few blocks of our house.

I remember being with her at one particular small apartment complex (which is still there, largely unchanged, after all these years). Were were in the first-floor laundry room, and the door was propped wide open to keep it cool in there. My mother was doing the laundry and I was sitting in the doorway looking outside, across the (also small) parking lot. I remember seeing the ditch behind the parking lot and thinking there were tadpoles in there. I got up and scooted right over to the ditch to look for the tadpoles, and *splash*, I fell right in, catching myself on my hands and knees. It hadn't rained much, so there was only about 3-4 inches of water in there. My mother had taken off after me as soon as she saw me on the move, but you know little kids- they move faster than you think! I remember my mother picked me up and scolded me a little, and that's the end of the memory.

When I was in my 20's, I told my mother about that episode, and she remembered it clearly. She was astonished that I did because I hadn't had my second birthday when that happened.

My earliest memory is picking up my new baby brother from the hospital. We are all adopted and I was four when we got my brother. I CLEARLY remember driving over the bridge to the hospital to get him and the nurses handing my brother to my mother. That was almost 40 years ago, so I am amazed how clearly I can remember it.

We moved right around the time I turned 3. I have a few clear memories of our old house. In one of them, I had climbed into my sister's crib and was sitting in there with her. She was about 1 at the time.

I also remember sitting on the step in front of the back door, eating from one of those little red boxes of raisins.

And I remember playing in a wading pool with the little girl who lived next door to us.

I remember playing in a little wading pool with my brother when I was about 2. I also have a picture of that which helps. My mother had made each of us a small picture album when we were children and I looked at mine often throughout my childhood. I also lived in the same house until I was in my 20's.

My earliest memory is Kindergarten and first grade at St. Hedwigs, Milwaukee, WI.
What I remember is recess and how the street would be blocked off so we could play as there was no playground.
I remember after playing with bouncy balls we were all given a carton of milk, paper straw and crackers for "snack."

hugs, train
