Lavender is pretty easy to grow too... I bought a very large pot last year (Walmarts $8) late in the summer, I'd say around July and put in dirt and seeds and by the fall they had grown enough to have the little purple flowers on them. Over winter I was supposed to cover them with newspapers but kept forgetting but lo and behold, this summer they are growing like crazy. And the nice thing is their a perennial so they'll just keep growing every year... I plan to get another pot and transplant some of them.
Sunflowers planted in the ground grow easy too... we have been planting the Mammoth Sunflowers which grow about 7 feet tall I believe and they are pretty much maintenance free and forgiving if you forget to water them. A added bonus is you can hull the seeds (just use a fork and pull downward and eat them) save some to plant next year, store in a tin.
