I am Catholic too and I go to services on Ash Wednesday every year.
Barb was right, get involved in something at the church. I am in the choir, but there are lecters (sp?) that read the readings and some of the prayers in our parish. I'm sure there are similar positions available in just about any religion that has similar services.
