| silicone light bulbs
I experimented with these a couple of months ago. My husband bought a generic tube of silicone from Wal-Mart for a couple of bucks. I bought a package of four low wattage (4 or 5 watt) bulbs at Wal Mart too for under $2.
Using a caulking gun, I squirted the silicone into an empty plastic container I had. Any tall thin container will work. Then I took the bulb and dipped it into the silicone almost to the metal base. I found that pulling them out quickly left the longest, thinnest silicone "flame".
I tied a string between two objects. Then I used spring type clothespins to clamp onto the bulb base and tied the clothespin to the string to allow the silicone to dry. Make sure the bulb is upside down for the silicone "flame" to remain intact.
The result were saisfactory. The "flames" weren't as smooth as the store bought; there were some bubbles in the silicone. But when lit they look great. I think if you could find some thinner silicone it would work better. Also, my husband said that he believes the silicone is sold in tubs instead of tubes which might cut down on the bulbbles.
I haven't seen the colored flames, so sorry I can't help out there.
