When baking a potato, if you are short on time, use a potato nail; it conducts heat into the inside of the potato and shortens cooking time.
I reached for my potato nails the other day, and they were gone!! So I got out a couple of skewers with a flat side. I stuck one through each potato, and discovered they make a wonderful handle - I could brush the margarine on them, roll them in salt, and not get my hands gooey! The skewers worked as well as or better than potato nails!
