4-H is a club for boys and girls ages 5-18. Boys and girls are in the same club, similar to boy and girl scouts but we don't require uniforms (not in NC that is). And we only meet once a month (well our clubs) may be slightly different in other states. We focus on community service and leadership and our clubs are kind of self-directed (we don't have our main organization group telling us what topics and subjects we have to cover at each meeting. In my club my kids come up with topics (leader approved - LOL) that they want to learn about in the coming year and we assign topics to each month and then have those topics at those meetings. We have an awards ceremony once a year for projects the kids turn-in, but those projects can be on any topic the kids want to take on. That is a brief synaposis of what 4-H is. It is lots of fun and not as much pressure and much easier to be a leader than scouts. Now their are also project specific clubs (like horse clubs, gardening, technology, science, Cooking, sewing, livestock clubs - and they focus more on that one topic throughout the year, but the kids can still do other things in their projects that they are interested in.
