I have a few different piercings. Although I am 28 I started getting them ( besides ears) at about the age of fifteen.
Through experience I can tell you this. If your child really wants to get this done go with them while it's being done ( I'm gonna get flack for this one)
If the really want it and you don't go along with it chances are they will do it anyways and if you can understand the complications involved in a bad job done, you'll understand why I say this. My mom came with me for my first one she said it was gross but it's my body. That time they used the gun. ( I have/ had 4 piercings around my belly button north, east, south, west) went well. 2nd one done by the needle beautiful, this is the method I recommend.3rd one another gun worst mess I've seen, this was in 1997 when places besides tattoo parlors were doing them. She put the thing in sideways and everything....just horrible. After that I have done them myself I DO NOT reccommend this to anyone unless they know what they are doing and are trained. I repeat DO NOT try it.
If you do get it done have plenty of tea tree oil and vit. e handy to clean it and to apply to it to prevent scaring and rippling
At the age of 14 chances are they just want to show some sort of independence and spread there wings some. If you are comfortable with it and you belive they are mature enough to look after it go with them and make sure a professional does it right.
