My child was 3 when he was finally diagnosed with asthma...I have asthma and I kept telling his doctor that he would wake up about 1:00am every night, coughing and wheezing. He sounded like a kitten. My doctor then thought I was nuts...I changed Doctors and when he was sick I brought him in right away and he says...he is having an asthma attack! Finally! Someone believed me. My son had a few rough years and he missed alot of school. Finally we saw a specialist to get more help for him...we then did the enviromental thing, dust free bedroom..no stuffed animals, books and stuff like that in his room...his room was a sleeping room only and I gave him the extra bedroom to put his toy box and books etc. Hanging clothes were kept separate too! The most drastic step is we had to remove our carpet. I still have 2 rooms left with wall to wall carpet left to rip out. (dustmites are bad in carpet) The best thing we did was to purchase a Honeywell air cleaner with a cpz filter too. It was expensive but it works...you do NOT want an ironizer type.(bad for you)
We run it 24/7, in his room...the only time it is shut off is if we are on vacation for 2 weeks or so.
It has made a difference, also no cats.
Now my son is 13 and he only gets asthma when he gets a cold or if the grass is mowed.
There is light at the end of the tunnel ladies and there are so many better drugs out now for asthma.
