I live in the Sonoran Desert (Tucson, AZ, USA) Except for our winter rainy season and summer monsoon season -- each about six weeks long -- our air is very dry.
In winter it can get so dry indoors your clothes stick to you with static electricity and your hair stands up all over your head unless you keep a humidifier going. In summer it's dry indoors from air-conditioning, and outside it's dry and VERY hot (100+ degrees). Summer or winter the change between indoor and outdoor conditions can give your skin a real workout. And you need sun protection all year round too.
I've lotioned all over every day for the 50 years I've lived here. The last 20 years or so I've scrubbed all over with a loofah sponge, too. Keeps dead skin cells from building up under all that lotion. I'm almost 61 and people still ask the secret of my young-looking skin after all these years in the desert -- it's lotion, lotion, lotion!
Love,
Gramz
