I sew. I make clothing, dolls, animals, etc. My grandkids have Build a Bears, and I sew clothes for them. They each have night wear, and day wear. I make "receiving" blankets also, but I like them big, so I buy 1 1/4 yd.s of 45" fabric and hem all the edges mitering the corners. I like to have some on hand so if anyone finds out they are expecting or going to deliver close to Christmas I have them on hand as a special present.
I Also crochet and am working on my neice's wedding present which will be an afgan. I just finished a baby blanket.
Ceramics is another hobby I share with my friend that has the kiln. I did a mid-evil chess set 2 Christmas' ago, and love to make special christmas ornaments for all grandkids both the regular and the "aquired" ones.
The rice bags are great and you can also use flax seed. Sometimes I add some lavender to a soothing aroma. Neck Bones pillows are great too. Just draw a bone shape and cut 3 or 4 and sew them together, leaving a small slit on the side to stuff the pillow firm. I've made these for our Chiropractor's office only his I covered with plastic. You can get the plastic at Hand****s in the upholstry dept. You want the next to the smallest gage.
Another thing is spice shapes. All it is is Cinnamon and other ground spices mixed with glue ( White glue) to form a thick paste. Roll out between 2 sheets of waxed paper and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter, and put a hole at the top for hanging. Allow to dry on a sheet of waxed paper. Then I like to give a light coat of talc or flour to keep them from sticking together and store them in an airtight container until I'm ready to give them away. They can be decorated with eyes, ribbons, etc.
