Our gas company offers insurance for waterline and gas line breakage, it's $72.00 a year.. now they are offering sewer for another $4.50 a month... can't decide whether to gamble or pay it. They say to dig up the sewer in our yard could cost up to $4000.00 so that's a scary thought. Will have to dwell on it for a day or two and talk to dh.

Anna it would take 55 years of paying $72 a year to equal the $4000. You might try to find out how often a breakage happens I'm assuming it would be from the hookup to your house when you would be responsible. We had a break several years ago, was across the street, when we came home the water was bubbling up from the street like the oil in the opening of the Beverly Hill Billies show.
