Oh Morelia, I TOO have wanted to go to NYC for years!! Go to the Local and Regional forum then click on New York!! There is an awesome thread there about places to visit in the city!!!
I too would have trouble just picking one place of the cities I have been to but I guess I would say San Fransisco!! I love the Fishermans Wharf, Golden Gate Park, North beach, Chinatown, Lombard Ave and riding the cable cars! It's such a pretty city on a hill with all it's colorful Victorian row houses and just a fun place to spend the day and people watch. (one of my favorite "lazy pastimes!!)
Close seconds...........Seattle and Dallas....Oh, and Boston and Savannah.
