Afternoon everyone,
Boy we have been

(talking) a lot today. Welcome back jigglypuff, I remember you because I thought your name jigglypuff was so cute. Glad you have more time to join us nowadays. Do your kids start school back the 9th?
As for the discussion on ADD or ADHD, as stated before all 3 of mine are on meds and the improvement we have seen in school and home life are incredible. I still didn't quite understand the effects of ADD until I started school. Didn't even know I was ADD, I would joke about it because I never seemed to get one thing finished before I would get distracted by something else. Anyway when I started school I was having to read my chapters 3 and 4 times just to get what I was suppose to be reading. I would be half way through a chapter and realize that even though my eyes were reading the words my mind was on a million other things so I would have to start over with the reading telling myself to concentrate this time. Finally after talking to the doc and he put me on one of the ritalin like drugs it was amazing the difference. I could read it once and have it, I could concentrate on test even if there was other noise in the room without getting frustrated. I finally realized what my kids had gone through before being medicated. The thousands of voices in your head were just a normal thing for me so I didn't think anything of it because not a lot of what I did as a housewife needed the sustained concentration that school did. After all Jerry had gotten use to things being half finished, pots being burnt because I forgot them cooking, clothes getting washed but not dried so having to rewash them etc. etc. etc. I don't know what causes ADD but some of the points ya'll brought us sound reasonable. Now my two boys are not outside run and play kids at all, they would much rather be playing a video game, putting something electronic together, watching TV or reading a book. They are both avid readers and read more than even I do. Lacy loves the outdoors and is always swimming, running, chasing the dogs or cats, trying to ride the scooter around the kitchen floor till I chase her outdoors, anyway very active child. She does play on the computer a little, play video games sometimes and watches cartoons some, hates to read. Anyway she is more active than both boys put together and she actually has the hyperactivity worse than Matt. even with being so active. Michael's is just attention. And even though the boys aren't active all 3 of mine are very skinny. I mean my 17 1/2 year old is 95 LBS. and about 5'6" but he eats ALL the time. He will sit and eat 3 sandwiches an hour before dinner. Anyhow Joyce made a lot of sense with the additives theory. I use to cook a lot with hamburger helper, boxed potatoes, and package mixes. I make more stuff from scratch now but it is more because over time I have learned to cook more than trying to watch what we eat. But short of any other theory that could explain why all 3 of mine are ADD. My sister has one son that is and one son that isn't. It is just weird how it strikes some kids and not others, especially when they are in the same family and all kids pretty much do the same thing, breath the same air and eat pretty much similar foods--fast foods etc. Speaking of the air, Michael's and my asthma has gotten 99% better since moving up here but he still has the problem of ADD. We found out he can not drive without his meds because he simply does not pay attention and drives very wreckless without his meds. On his meds he is an extremely careful driver.
Doris so glad to see you back posting. I miss you when your gone. Are you getting any wind or rain out there from the tropical storm in the Carolina's? I am sorry you have been having some personal problems and hope things are going better for you. You do know you can come here and vent anytime you feel like it, we're here to listen and help you through anything we can. Don't always try to be so strong and handle everything on your own, learn to lean on others. Afterall your a woman, wife and mother, you have to be strong for so many people it's ok to lean on others sometimes and let them help hold you up. You may be disappointed but I'm not sure if I am going to go back to school or not right now. I have until the middle of Sept. to decide, that is when ours starts back. I am half thinking of getting a job waitressing like Joyce. Things are getting so expensive with the kids and there are so many things we want and need right now and with it being Michael's SR year coming up, the pictures, cap and gown, announcements and all the other stuff that is going to cost a fortune I would like to have more money coming in the house and not run up the credit cards. I haven't made a decision for sure either way. I mean somehow after bills we manage to blow an awful lot of money every month and if I could get control of that and figure out where we're blowing the money we would be ok. I'm great at getting the bills paid but am terrible with the money after that, we can blow through about $800.00 in two weeks and not really have an idea of where it went except gas, groceries and cigs. I NEED HELP!!
Anyway I am very glad to see ya back.
Hey guys didn't Kim say she was going to Myrtle Beach this week? Hope she is not getting blown away by the tropical storm and it doesn't ruin their vacation. I bet those waves are really cool though. I would love to be down there right now at a safe distance but where I could see the big waves.
