You may not have told your in-laws you're planning to move, but I'll bet they've figured it out. Stick to your guns. You're right: "too little too late". That "forced" niceness is hard for them to do, so it won't last long.
I often wish we had moved away from my in-laws. All their other children did. So now we're stuck here taking care of them. They live in the country - and
refuse to move from the family farm. But neither drives any more. So we do a lot of running for them.
In a way, maybe its easier for us, because we can spend a couple of hours with them once a week, and go home. The other siblings come to visit for a weekend every few months, but have to be with them 24/7 for those couple days. That would drive me nuts.

GETTING IN THE MOOD FOR CHRISTMAS. I went to an outlet mall yesterday, and found the cutest outfit on clearance for my new niece. Originally $25, I got it for $3!! She was born in June, so will be 6 mos at Christmas. I got a 12 month size. Hope it's OK because I'd hate for them to have to return it and find out I only paid $3
