Barb,
I have arthritic pain in my right thumb most of the time.. I just know I need to lift heavy things with two hands. LOL!
As far as I know, arthritis pain in the thumb joint is usually localized to the joint. It only refers up to the wrist when the arthritis gets bad enough to pinch the nerve.
The fact that the pain travels, indicates that there could be a nerve involved. Or it could be that you have a sprain, and the pain you have is not refered nerve pain .. but an actual tendonitis.
If it gets bad, I'd have a doc look at it. There are great therapies for arthritis that make it livable..and if it is an injury to the joint, you should rest it... and re-hab it. It may sound funny, but hand injuries are hard to heal, because we're always using them!
