My tips from a friend of mine.

A friend of mine has then surgery as well and then when I was thinking about having it she said NO, DON'T DO IT! She said trhe same thing. She has more problems now than before. She went to a new doctor and he said it is all in how you treat it. Wear good shoes and stretch every morning before you get up and try not to go bare foot often. I have done this and I can say it helped me I hardly have foot pain now unless I wear bad shoes.

Here is the stretching excercise to do before you even get out of bed!!!!! Have a large workout rubber band or a towel. take the towel and loop it under the balls of your feet and hold each end of the towel and pull towards you. Stretching the back of your leg as far as you can then point your toes back out. Do this 5-6 times on each foot then roll feet in circles. Then get ones of those roller massages things you can roll your feet over to massage the middle of foot and roll it back and forth.

She said keeping these muscles (one on back of heel and bottom of feet) stretched will keep you from getting spurs. I have also gotten in the habit when I am brushign my teeth to stand their going up adn down on my feet with my toes. (This is good for calves as well)

May not work for you but worked for me!!!
