I love a good power-outage, except for when it is close to or below freezing temperatures outside, then it can be a bit daunting just trying to think of fun ways to stay warm (other than sleeping by the fireplace, fully dressed, piled under all the blankets, and two cats).... I use to have dozens of candles and candle holders (before we moved to AZ in May 2011), and our B-B-Q, just for this occasion. I use to pretend that we were camping out. We had our trusty BBQ to make meals with and heat water / soups...sometimes we would roast marshmallows over the grills if it was warm enough outside to do so, otherwise the fireplace was great for roasting mellows/ dogs/ popcorn. If the little ones came were visiting we would built a fort / tent of blankets and furniture and imagine we were in someplace else exploring the deep jungles of Africa, or rain-forests in the Olympic mountains. If we were on a septic tank - coffee cans in the backyard /garage were used like out houses, but if we were on city sewage it was business as usual. Sometimes we would play board/card games, but mostly things that would keep our minds and bodies active until it was late enough to sleep properly.
