Release Date: January 27, 2006

First off, you must see Big Momma's House to understand where the character comes from in the first place. Malcom (Martin Lawrence) is an FBI agent who has taken a desk job and left his more dangerous field position to please his new, and pregnant, wife, Sherry (Nia Long), whom he met in the first movie.

When a fellow FBI agent is killed in the line of duty, he wants back in the field but the boss won't let him get involved due to his close relationship with the downed agent. Lawrence lies to his wife so she won't worry about him going into the field again and dons his Big Momma fat suit to get a job as a nanny in the suspect's house.

Big Momma enters the lives of the dysfunctional Fuller family, and by the end of the movie has miraculously changed each and every one of them. The workaholic father realizes what he's been missing, the misguided, punk-dressing teen daughter comes around to her old self, their daughter that can't dance becomes a blue ribbon competition cheerleader, and the toddler who has never spoken a word can suddenly say things such as "investigation". To top it all off, the overly organized mom takes down her pegboard of activities, all because of a two week visit with Big Momma. We all know this can only happen in Hollywood! Dysfunction just isn't that easily cured.

Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some humorous moments, but most of them are the result of either an alcohol or sexual reference. Malcolm gives the depressed pet chihuahua Tequila to perk him up, he is constantly pulling and tugging at a Mac truck sized thong, and gets a few laughs when he (or she rather) is taken into a day spa and is surrounded by scantily clothed lingerie models. Though I will admit, the scene with Big Momma in a bathing suit running down the beach cracked me up!

The original Big Momma's House was much funnier, was definitely more original and had some genuine laughs. I'm a big Martin Lawrence fan, but this was definitely not his best work. Don't waste your money in the theaters, or if you must, be sure to hit the matinee. Wait for the DVD and rent it, or better yet wait for Pay Per View as it's even cheaper.

We give this film 2.5 out of 5 stars.

Big Momma's House
FBI agent Malcolm Turner is known best for being a brilliant, master of disguise. Malcolm's latest assignment sends him to small-town Georgia, where he's assigned to trap a brutal bank robber (and a recent prison escapee) who they suspect will be coming down to visit his ex-girlfriend Sherry and her son. Malcolm sets up a stakeout across from the home of a larger-than-life southern matriarch known as Big Momma, who's about to be visited by Sherry. It's a simple plan, but there's one big problem: Unbeknownst to Sherry, Big Momma has unexpectedly left town. So Malcolm, decides to impersonate the cantankerous Southern granny. Using a few tricks of disguise, he completely transforms himself into Big Momma, even taking on the corpulent septuagenarian's everyday routine-from cooking soul food to delivering babies to "testifying" at the local church. In the mean time, Malcolm starts falling for Sherry, who may or may not be hiding some stolen cash. Now, Malcolm/Big Momma must somehow find a way to nab his criminal and the girl.
