  Scarecrow Sugar Cookies - pg. 2

Now that your supplies are at the ready and your work surface has been prepared, let's begin!

What You Do

Roll out cookies on a lightly floured table. Cut out scarecrows using a large acorn cookie cutter.

Bake as directed on cookie package or according to your recipe. Remove cookies to wire racks to cool.

Add 1/2 cup shredded coconut to a small plastic baggie. Add orange food coloring and mix to combine. This will be used as the scarecrow's straw.

Ingredients for powdered sugar icing:
2 cups powdered sugar
2 TBSP milk + additional milk, if necessary
1 tsp vanilla or almond flavoring (optional)

Stir together 2 cups and 2 TBSP milk. If the icing is too thick to spread easily, add more milk 1 tsp at a time, until a spreadable consistency is achieved.

Divide icing into 3 small bowls and color one bowl of icing light brown, one bowl dark brown, and one bowl yellow.


1. The acorn cap is iced light brown for the "hat".
2. The acorn is iced yellow for the scarecrow's "face".
3. At this point sprinkle on the orange coconut for "hair" around the hat and the neck.
4. Use the dark brown icing to outline and fill in the hat.
5. Cut the yellow pieces from some candy corns. Use the white/orange pieces for eyes. Draw a pupil in with the dark brown icing.
6. Slice a small piece from a gummi worm for the nose.
7. Line up the mini chocolate chips in a smile on the face.
