Halloween Party Decorations
Create a spooky and fun atmosphere with artificial mist! Fill buckets half way with water and add dry ice. There should be enough water to cover the dry ice, and the proportions should be 2 parts water to 1 part dry ice. Warmer water will create thicker smoke, but it will disappear quickly. Cooler water will create thinner smoke but it will linger longer. Place the buckets around the party area, but make sure the children can’t get at them. Dry ice is dangerous when touched.

Twist together orange and black streamers and hang them along the walls and drape them along the ceiling in the party area. For a fun touch, hang long strips of streamers in a row across the main entry way to the party area, creating a curtain for your guests to pass through as they come and go.
Use a black marker to draw ghost faces on white balloons. Fill them with helium so they float near the ceiling. Draw jack-o-lantern faces on orange balloons and secure them to tables and windowsills.
Purchase neon black lights and place them in the party area. This will create an eerie glow and make all the white items in the room, like the mist and ‘ghosts,’ really stand out.
Halloween Party Food Ideas
Use your favorite Halloween cookie cutters to cut soft sandwiches, such as peanut butter and jelly or tuna fish, into spooky shapes, like ghosts, bats, and pumpkins.
Serve finger foods that come in Halloween colors, such as orange slices, Cheetos, baby carrots, cheddar cheese cubes, Ho-Hos, black licorice, and blackberries. Make fruit kabobs by alternating purple grapes and cantaloupe on wooden skewers.
Serve a spooky punch like Witch's Brew. This drink is best made by mixing a yellow beverage with a blue beverage. Try using Mountain Dew, Gatorade, or Lemonade for the yellow beverage and blue Kool-Aid or blue sports drinks for the blue beverage. Your goal is a radioactive shade of green, so keep adding a little bit of each colored drink until you get the right mix.
Pour the punch into a plastic witch’s cauldron (available at discount and holiday stores). Freeze small plastic spiders, eyes, or bats into ice cubes and add one to each cupful of brew!
For an extra special treat, make each guest a “ghost on a stick”! For 10 of these scary snacks, you will need:
- A cookie sheet lined with wax paper
- A wooden spatula
- A wide, shallow glass or microwave-safe bowl
- 1 pound of white chocolate pieces
- 5 bananas, cut in half lengthwise
- 10 popsicle sticks
- Candy, raisins, or other edible decorations to form the ghosts’ faces
To assemble:
- Place the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on low power until melted.
- Let the white chocolate cool a bit until it’s just slightly warm.
- Dip the banana halves in the white chocolate until they are completely coated.
- Place the coated banana halves on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet.
- While the coating is still tacky, use candy, raisins, ect. to form the ghosts’ faces.
- Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.
- Insert a popsicle-stick into the bottom of each banana and serve!
