The Extreme Embellished Purse

Girls will love this purse! A great way to show young girls some basic sewing skills and help them create something of their very own.

You will need

Purse with a nice front flap
Trim of your choice*
Thread to match trim
Iron-on patches

* Measure around purse flap to find the length of trim needed.

If you make this project we'd love to see it! Just send your photos and comments to the editor and it may get published on our Facebook fan page!

What you do

Sew trim to underside of flap by hand or machine (use jean needle).

Using hot iron, press patches into place and let cool. Test to make sure entire patch is secure. Repeat if needed.

If patch has jewels or rhinestones on it, place pressing cloth over patch or iron from the back side.

Recommended: Sewing 101 is a modern-day primer on the basic skills and techniques of sewing. This book is geared toward the absolute novice and assumes you know little or nothing about the craft. Filled with lots of step-by-step photos, useful sewing tip sidebars, and a painstakingly detailed glossary, Sewing 101 teaches you how to sew successfully. You will learn terminology used regularly in sewing, as well as all the basic skills that are the building blocks of the art. From threading the machine to sewing a straight stitch, to more complicated procedures such as installing zippers and following patterns, everything is covered.
