Designed by Amanda Formaro

Foam is one of the easiest mediums for kids to manipulate. Gather the kids around the table, dump out a package of foam shapes and watch them create. To start off, make this cute little springtime frog with your little ones.

You will need

Foamies in the following shapes and colors:

piece of construction paper or poster board
1 large green circle
1 large green heart
2 green tear drops (or circle cut in half)
1 medium green circle, cut in half
2 small yellow circles
2 mini black circles
1 medium green leaf or tear drop
2 small green leaves or tear drops
3 flowers with removable centers, we used pink orange and green
1 sheet green foam
1 large yellow circle
2 yellow rectangles, cut into 8 or 9 strips for sun rays
white craft glue
Black Sharpie marker

If you make this project we'd love to see it! Just send your photos and comments to the editor and it may get published on this page!

What you do

Start by cutting grass from the green foam sheet by cutting along the long side of the sheet, so that you end up with a strip about 1" wide. Then take scissors and cut grass blades doing "v" cuts, enough to cover the bottom of your paper or poster board. Parents can help with this step while younger children find the foam pieces they need for their project.

Glue the grass strip(s) in place at the bottom of the paper. Glue gree heart upside down so that it sits just above the top of the grass. Glue teardrops on for legs, use photo as a guide. Using the medium green circle cut in half, glu on the frog's feet.

Next, glue the large green circle over the point of the hear shape. Glue yellow circles in place for eyes, then black circles on top of the yellow.

Use left over green foam sheet to cut out two flower stems. To the right of your frog, glue the stems in place. Glue the leaves in place.

Pop out the perforated centers of each flower shape and set aside. Glue two flowers on top of the stems and the third flower just above the others. Now using the center pop outs from the flowers, glue to the centers of the flowers, contrasting each one. For example, glue the green center to the orange flower, the orange center to the pink flower, and so on.

Glue the yellow circle at the top of your paper, leaving room for the sun rays. Glue sun rays in place.

Use a black marker to draw on two dots for nostrils, smile and eyebrows.

Kids' Crafts: Paper Fantastic : 50 Creative Projects to Fold, Cut, Glue, Paint & Weave
Safe, easy, fast, and fun: paper crafts are the perfect creative activity for children. And these 48 unique projects—engagingly displayed on colorful pages—prove there’s more to paper art than just cutting out hearts. A special section starts kids off by introducing them to different papers and tools, while six technique-based chapters present imaginative possibilities for transforming everything from corrugated cardboard to vellum. Using collage, budding artists can create a Dream Travel Box. Young fashionistas will enjoy designing their own paper clothesline. Or they might fold a Book Necklace, make an origami Peace Crane, construct big beautiful Butterfly Wings for a costume party, even create a cool paper-mâché pig. Best of all, kids will learn how to turn their own crafty ideas into reality.
