Now that your supplies are at the ready and your work surface has been prepared, let's begin!

What You Do

Wash and dry the t-shirt, do NOT use fabric softener. Iron if needed.

Place cookie sheet or cutting board inside the shirt, insert wax paper in between shirt and cutting board or cookie sheet. This will keep any paint from seeping through the other side. Also, the paint will not stick to the wax paper like it would with regular paper. The cutting board gives you a solid work surface that is also portable. When you are done and need to let your shirt dry, you simply lift the cutting board and the shirt comes with.

Use Cool Color Block™ to write or draw a design on the clean shirt. Here we wrote the word skate and drew a simple skateboard. On the second shirt we wrote the word peace and added simple designs such as a peace sign, flower, heart, star and smiley face.

Let Cool Color Block™ dry for one hour.

Use fabric spray paint to add color to your shirt. Spray right on top of the Cool Color Block™ designs. On the skate shirt we used blue, yellow and green. On the peace shirt we used yellow, green and red, overlapping some of the colors to create more colors.

You can use varying amounts of spray paint. Use lighter sprays for a softer look, use more layers for a bolder look.

Drying times will vary depending on the results you are after. If you want a washed out vintage kind of look (like our peace shirt), allow the paint to dry for about an hour. Rinse out the Cool Color Block™, using your fingers to gently rub it off. Because of the short drying time, you will lose some of the sprayed on color as well, giving your design a more washed out vintage look.

For a more bold and solid look, like our skate shirt, allow the paint to dry overnight. Repeat the rinsing steps above.

Wait 72 hours before washing your shirt.
