Although many parents don't talk about it, the final act of separation cuts like a knife, particularly when previously living on a full time basis with the kids. You will not be with your children on a full time basis as accustomed.
What happens when you interact with your former spouse? Are you angry, fearful, upset and defensive? Or are you centered, focused and neutral? Are you proactive or reactive? Do you have your business hat on, or are you the scream machine?
What day does Thanksgiving fall on anyway? What about Christmas and New Years? What year is this and who's got the kids for the holidays?
You realize you are going to have to go dig out those divorce papers and see what year it is and if it's odd or even and if you get to see your children or if you'll be heading to Grandma's without your kids in tow.
Grief work does not progress in a neat orderly way. It can and usually will come up during certain times such as holidays, birthdays and other significant events following a divorce or significant break.
Getting divorced is a financial blow to any family. Even in the best of circumstances there are double the housing expenses because suddenly there are two homes to support. Ah you know, two phone bills, to cable bills, two water bills and so on. |
