At The Movies - Tarzan- Disney's latest animated epic owes as much to "The Lion King" and
the tale of the ugly duckling than to the Johnny Weissmuller live-action
series or the Edgar Rice Burroughs novels. Like "The Lion King," it
begins with a brief introduction to the world of the African jungle.
Big Momma's House 2- First off, you must see Big Momma's House to understand where the character comes from in the first place. Malcom (Martin Lawrence) is an FBI agent who has taken a desk job and left his more dangerous field position to please his new, and pregnant, wife, Sherry (Nia Long), whom he met in the first movie.
Holiday Cheer via your VCR- Some of my fondest childhood Christmas memories involve watching holiday
classics with my family and enjoying hot chocolate and Christmas cookies
(most of my fond memories involved some sort of cookie).
March of the Penguins- I knew as soon as this movie came out I wanted to see it. I love documentaries, nature, and animals. This film contains all of that and then some.
In this amazing footage, we spend an entire year with a flock of Emperor penguins as they walk almost 70 miles to breed, go without food for months, and face weather that could easily kill a human being. We learn a little about the history of the land in Antarctica's barren wilderness, and that the Emperor penguin's ancestors chose to stay when all other life left for a warmer climate.
Nanny McPhee- A very good movie and entirely kid friendly. Younger children might get a little antsy during the latter part, but the giggles from the children's pranks as well as the donkey in full make up and hat are worth it. You might want to bring a tissue, because by the time Nanny McPhee says "When you need me, but do not want me, then I will stay. When you want me, but do not need me, then I have to go." you'll need it. We give this fun family friendly film 4 out of 5 stars.
Yours, Mine & Ours- This movie is a remake of the 1968 film of the same title, which starred Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda. There are some zany, messy scenes that are reminiscent of Cheaper By The Dozen, another remake involving one family with 12 children. Helen's family has several pets, including a pig that eats from the table and plays like a dog. The kids are drafted to help paint and restore the old lighthouse/house the family has moved into. Put 18 kids and several gallons of paint together, and well... you can probably imagine the rest!
Zathura- I must say that I was rather pleased with this movie, even though the previews led me to believe it would be a flop. I loved Jumanji, and this film is based on the same concept, but with a different twist and different characters. Our kids loved Zathura and watched it several times, my husband and I enjoyed it as well. I think the things that struck my husband and I most was the sibling rivalry between the two brothers in this film. It was nice to see Hollywood showing what it's really like, rather than portaying today's kids as the Brady Bunch.
