Make The First Haircut a Positive Experience

Time to take your little one for that first haircut? It can
be a bit of an adventure, as some kids scream through the
whole thing. Most children get their first cuts somewhere
around 12 to 18 months old, just when fears and stranger
anxieties can be at peak levels.

To prepare you hairy honey, don't use words like "cut."
This may make the child think that the experience will be
painful. Instead, explain that people get their hair trimmed
so they can look nice and neat. Maybe you could get your
hair cut first, so the baby can see that there is nothing to
fear.

Ask the stylist to use warm water on the hair, as cold water
can be frightening. You may also want to get a
recommendation for a hair salon that is "kid-friendly."
