Easy Projects With Magnets
by Becky Breaux
Here are a few fun ideas of projects to make from magnets.
Magnet Mosaic
What you will need:
flat sheet of self adhesive magnet
foam
felt or colored paper
scissors
Cut the sheet into different sized squares, triangles, rectangles, and other shapes. Cut foam to sizes of the magnetic shapes to add color and texture to the pieces and attach them to the foam. You now have a magnetic mosaic set for you and the kids to play with. You can shape the pieces on any magnetic surface into pictures or designs!
Magnetic Puzzle
What you will need:
Sheet of self adhesive magnet (the size you want your puzzle to be)
a photo, picture out of a magazine, coloring book, etc.
It helps if the magnet is slightly larger than the picture, in case you don't get it stuck in the right place, then you can trim the extra magnetic sheeting around the picture. Once the picture is on the magnet, now all you have to do is cut it into shapes, then voila - you have a puzzle for the fridge!
Creative Magnets
What you will need:
Magnet sheeting, pieces, strips, biz card magnets... adhesive backed is nice but you can use glue. (You can also use the flat 'biz card' magnets you get in the mail, and glue over the message.)
There are no specific directions here, you want to make your own unique creations! Use gemstones, beads, seashells, felt, foam, macaroni, photos, etc. Put a photo in the middle of one and surround it with small stones or buttons to frame it.
Spell something out in alphabet pasta, and cover the rest with colored sand. Cover one with moss and dried flowers. Don't stick to the traditional, let your imagination run wild!
Keep texture in mind, if it's flat, it escapes notice. You can even try adding fabric scraps, layered tissue paper, or any kind of layering to give it that little extra "umph".
